This Diorama Religieux, found in France, boasts beautiful smoky hues, golden angels and ornaments, and captivating ground plants, creating a profound world within itself.
Likely handmade in a monastery between the late 1700s and early 1800s.
The label at the bottom center reads "l'Ange Gardien" (Guardian Angel), which in Christianity is an angel believed to accompany each person from birth, protecting them from life's confusions and dangers. These were amulets given as gifts for a child's birth or special occasions at the time.
